Helping people is not something Barbie Quesada decided to do. It is who she has always been.
With a master's-level background and a career devoted to serving others, especially women, Barbie has spent decades showing up for people in their hardest moments. Early in her career, she taught children with autism, and she knows firsthand how exhausting and isolating it can be to pour yourself out for a child who needs everything you have.
But it was her own daughter, Steph, who lit the fire behind A Brighter Beginning.
When one of Steph's children suffered a severe eye injury, life changed overnight. There were doctors and decisions, fear and faith, and a flood of emotions that a young wife and mother was never meant to carry alone. Barbie walked beside her through all of it: the waiting rooms, the hard conversations, the quiet moments when everything felt like too much. And she watched her daughter come through that season stronger, steadier, and more sure of her faith than before.
Somewhere along that road, Barbie realized Steph was not the only one. Everywhere she looked, young women were navigating transitions no one had prepared them for: new marriages, new babies, sudden crises, seasons of loss and seasons of change.
They didn't need someone to fix it. They needed someone to talk to. Someone who would listen, pray, and point them back to the God who makes all things new.
That calling became A Brighter Beginning, founded as a nonprofit in 2021. In the years since, Barbie has walked with women through life's transitions and challenges, one honest conversation at a time.
In January 2026, we opened the doors to our first physical location in Miami, a warm, welcoming space where women can be heard, encouraged, and reminded that their story isn't over.

Restoration and growth are a journey, not a destination. There is no timeline here, and no pressure to have it all together.
Faith shapes how we understand and respond to our emotions. What you feel is real, and God's truth speaks into all of it.
Women flourish when they are supported, heard, and encouraged. No one should have to figure it out alone.

Barbie Quesada
Founder and CounselorShe started A Brighter Beginning because she lived it. Watching someone she loves walk through the hardest season of her life showed her how much it matters to have one person truly in your corner, and she decided to become that person for others. These days you'll find her sitting across from women in Miami who are carrying more than anyone knows, meeting them with faith, honesty, and no judgment. At home she's a wife and a mom, and the same steady love she pours into her family is what she brings to everyone who walks through the door.
Steph Lucente
Biblical Life Coach and Office AdministratorShe learned how to care for people by watching her mom do it for as long as she can remember. She's usually the first person you'll talk to here, with a gift for putting you at ease before you've even sat down. Between counseling sessions and keeping everything running day to day, she wears a lot of hats, all while raising three kids of her own with her husband. She understands how full and how heavy a woman's life can get, because she's living it too, and that's exactly why women feel so understood with her.
